Crowds at the 2007 Royal Aero Club Air Race Weekend
 12 Aug 07
View of some of the several hundred who turned out to see the first day of some exciting racing by 19 different handicapped aircraft. Good food and drinks laid on including hog roast and BBQ. Great weather and vis made for excellent viewing and the site of several aircraft all "diving" for the line is something quite special. Highly recommend attending any of these really great and unique sporting events.

The first view of the mist was to the south during our let down but these clouds formed to the north.

We were approaching Shobdon in clear weather when mist suddenly formed over the hills to the south and I took some photos of which this is one of them.

Apologies for the dirty windscreen. Approaching runway 27, it was quite a blustery day today, wind was a lot stronger than reported on Met 215, made for some great turbulence coming in to land, encountered some windsheer on approach as well just past those trees at the bottom right of the picture - luckily we gained 13kts as opposed to losing it.

Shobdon airfield, is a mixture of laid back, relaxing fun, against a backdrop of manic aircraft movements. I flew up today for the first time, and found it quite easily.

The radio was very friendly, and the welcome very worm. While I was there, three Harriers made an approach, and then flew off, great to see.

On departure, the was nobody in the tower, so just had to keep talking, so that other pilots knew what I was doing.

I would recomend a visit, and the grub is good too.
