| “ | Flew into Rednal today (17 nov). The airfield isn't too hard to spot, being 3nm west of Sleap (EGCV). Its runways make it stand out. The PPR brief was very good, mentioning the high-tension power lines on left base for runway 22 and stressing to not fly west of the airfield (due noise abatement), so we joined on a LH downwind for runway 22 - as favored by the prevailing winds. There is a windsock by the large green hangar at the 22 threshold anyway.
Runway surface is unequal, but OK considering there is no landing fee! The lack of markings is a bit of a problem to evaluate where to touch down; runway length looks more than the advertised 700m - plenty for a PA28!
No answer from Shawbury LARS today (saturday), but on weekdays, contacting them on entering the Shawbury AIAA is a must. We used the Shawbury frequency (120.775) for position reports (as did other aircraft in the vicinity) before switching to Rednal advisory (118.175) for the circuit and landing.
We didn't get to sample the facilities - only using Rednal for a "hot" seat swap before carrying on our x-country navex. ” |
