Pilot reviews of North Weald AirfieldHave you visited
Wed 23 Jan - Ken Buchanan - London
“Great airfield, easy to find and massive runways. The Squadron has cheap plentiful food and a great WW2 atmosphere.
Just watch out for the Stansted CTA @ 1500'QNH which seemed to rule out an overhead join for me.”

“First visit earlier this week, and really liked the history and feel of the place. Generous runway, and even more generous bacon sarnies in the naafi!”

“02/July/2006 one of the very best .. if you haven’t been .. you must!! a favourite haunt with those in the south east .. well worth a visit .. as there is a huge danger of it closing due to local planners.”
10 Feb 06 - Alan Peaford - Grays
“Visited North Weald for the first time yesterday. Great experience and loved the Squadron building - lots of people sitting around drinking tea and talking about their formation flying and the joys of a Jet Provost. Wonderful long (and wide)runway which came in useful with the 24 knot crosswind. Remembering to stick around 1400 feet to keep under the Stansted zone focuses the mind. Great historic aircraft too. Feels like you have stepped back to a true World War 2 field.”
31 Dec 05 - David Richardson - Fowlmere
“Visited in October (but only just got round to writing the review!). Very friendly, lots to see and great all day breakfaast - what more could you want?”

21 Jan 04 - Damian Cross - Pimlico, London
“Visit date: 18/01/04. After skirting around the Stapleford CTR and then descending under 1,500 to stay clear of Stanstead I made my final approach to Rwy 02. On the threshold were a bunch of spectators hanging around a glider and tug. My final approach was high so slipped the C182 into a fully deflected left wing down, full right rudder configuration. Must have looked a sight being 100ft asl (above spectator level) in a full side slip - my co-pilot told me they took plenty of picutures. However, once I landed I quickly realised that I was the minority at this superbly outfitted airfield. There were Yak's in formation on the left, Gliders on the right, radio controlled aircraft on left base, and amazing historic buildings/planes dotted around for all to admire. This was my first visit to EGSX.... but definitely not my last. By the way, try the roast lamb - delicious!

“Aviation heaven - particularly if you like vintage aircraft.
Alan and Keith, managers of The Squadron - the on-field club - will look after your every need. John will refuel your aeroplane with tender loving care. The kitchen staff will not let you leave hungry. There's a bar too. Hic! It has a lovely long wide runway too. Keep a look out for their regular fly-ins.” Have you visited |
