Pilots For The High Jump on JerseySubmitted by: Julian Storey , Thursday, 24 Feb 2005 “If piloting an aeroplane is flying, then sailing in a boat is swimming” says Skydive Jersey, Centre Chief Instructor Andy Montriou with a wry smile, and if pilots want to try their hand at 'real flying' on the beautiful Channel Island of Jersey, then now is the perfect opportunity.
To a skydiver on Jersey, ‘real flying’ involves leaping from a perfectly serviceable aeroplane, two miles above the long, golden beach at picturesque St Aubins Bay on the island’s South coast, hurtling vertically downwards in freefall at 120 miles per hour until they reach 5,000 feet whereupon they open their parachute and drift gently onto the beach to rapturous applause from the crowds that inevitably gather to watch the island's parachutists in action.
Any pilot who would like to fly to Jersey and try a tandem skydive gets a free landing fee!
Skydive Jersey is affiliated to the British Parachute Association, the only parachute centre in the Channel Islands and the only BPA centre in the British Isles with approval to jump onto a beach.
