Pilot reviews of Deauville AirfieldOther airfield reviews...
16 Apr 07 - Rob Ashton - Brighton
“I flew there in August 2006. I agree that this is a good place to visit, particularly as a first French airport. (It was my first; and at the time of writing, my only so far.)
Flew in from Alderney during a fly-out from Shoreham. Deauville were happy for us to route along the Normandy coast to check out the D-Day landing sites. (Great views of the Mulberry Harbours, even those that are submerged now. Cliff-top cemeteries provide a poignant reminder of what happened there...)
From this direction (west) at least, the airfield was tricky to spot until we were very near, as it's surrounded by pine forest. Thankfully our GPS helped a lot.
We were marshalled in to park on the south side of the main apron.
Staff at the reporting point very friendly. As at many large airfields, we were asked to pay by fuel card (eg AirBP). Fortunately one of our party had one. Maybe booking fuel in advance would get round this? Worth checking before you set off anyway. ”

“I have visited this airport many times, it has a big long runway and a small grass run way to the west of the hard runway. the resturant in the airport is good with a plenty full supply of beer and wine and food.
I have stopped off to clear customs on route to else where and also as a final destination. Like all large french airports english is spoken by ATC but not by the french pilots as a rule, but some times they will.
Once landing you are escorted to the GA parking by the follow me van. but if you want fuel ask it is got from the main apron. Pay your fees fuel landing and customs in the terminal. these days a pilots licence and passport is a good idea.
The normal french flight planning and pilots briefing unit is there too.
If you are using as your final destination a trip to Honflour is worth it but watch the taxi as 30 euro each way. the country side of this part of Normandy is very much like West Wales. The beaches near by are nice but the water of the channel a bit cold even in the summer.
A good first french airport as right on the coast. and English spoken. A nice area for camping cycling and B&B etc, ”Have you visited |
