| I flew there in August 2006. I agree that this is a good place to visit, particularly as a first French airport. (It was my first; and at the time of writing, my only so far.)
Flew in from Alderney during a fly-out from Shoreham. Deauville were happy for us to route along the Normandy coast to check out the D-Day landing sites. (Great views of the Mulberry Harbours, even those that are submerged now. Cliff-top cemeteries provide a poignant reminder of what happened there...)
From this direction (west) at least, the airfield was tricky to spot until we were very near, as it's surrounded by pine forest. Thankfully our GPS helped a lot.
We were marshalled in to park on the south side of the main apron.
Staff at the reporting point very friendly. As at many large airfields, we were asked to pay by fuel card (eg AirBP). Fortunately one of our party had one. Maybe booking fuel in advance would get round this? Worth checking before you set off anyway. ” |
