Fri 4 Jul - Andy Hawkins - Swindon, flying from EGDL and EGVN
| “ | I did the majority of my PPL training at Brize with RAF Brize Norton Flying club.
The facilities are obviously excellent, full ATC inside controlled airspace, with a good sized training area to the North, as well as a number of local airfields for landaways and the like.
Not much in the way of facilities at the Flying Club itself, but the station obviously has a number of places where food can be bought, and on site Met facilities so you can always talk to a forecaster before a flight. Club itself also has Internet access for flight planning purposes.
My primary reason for choosing them was the cost, but having shared the circuit with DC-10s, C130s, C13s, Antonovs and having held waiting for the Red Arrows to transit the overhead on their way to Fairford, I can safely say I've been exposed to some things you're unlikely to see at most other airfields!
Landing fee for visiting aircraft is likely to be steep, but as a Flying Club member all landings etc. are free. ” |
